Review of Choral Repertoire: Harp Parts

The Harp Column Magazine gave my publication, Choral Repertoire: Harp Parts a glowing review in their March/April 2026 issue. "The thoughtful typesetting and layout, useful rehearsal markings, frequent cues, helpful fingering and hand distribution suggestions, and much more make this a must--have addition to your library.... Whether you are a seasoned performer of choral works or a novice playing one of them for the first time, you will find Jacqueline Pollauf's book of harp parts a valuable reference." Harp Column Magazine's Advice Column

I recently enjoyed offering some thoughts for the Advice Column in the Harp Column Magazine. Along with two other professional harpists, I gave advice on how harpists can expand their private teaching studio and reach more students. Subscribers to the magazine can read the column either online (November-December 2025 | Harp Column) or in the print issue.

Performance at Library

On Saturday, November 15 at 10:30am, I'll give a solo performance at the Havre de Grace Library (120 North Union Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD). I've enjoyed giving performances at several other libraries recently and quite like that the audience can see the harp clearly and ask questions during the performance. I'll be playing some beautiful classical pieces, including works by Claude Debussy, Alphonse Hasselmans, and Sophia Dussek, alongside lighter pieces including Georgia on My Mind by Carmichael and Gorrell and Lady Be Good by George Gershwin. The performance is free and open to the public. Click here for more information.

World Premiere

I recently was involved in the premiere of Requiem by Graham Gordon Ramsey. This substantial eight movement work was written by Ramsey for choir and chamber orchestra, with some prominent harp parts throughout. Mass for the Endangered by Sarah Kirkland Snider, another work for the same instrumentation, was also featured on the program. Washington Classical Review had a great review of the concert

Recording Project

Next month I'll record Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda, Op. 26, Group 3 by Gustav Holst with the Emmanuel Choir and conductor Christian Lane, with support from the Maryland State Arts Council. This is a beautiful piece for treble voices and harp that is not performed as often it should be! I am hopeful that our finished video recording, which will be shared through my YouTube Channel, will help draw attention to this work. My edition of the harp part can also be found in my latest publication, Choral Repertoire: Harp PartsIt is a challenging part, with Holst using the full capabilities of the instrument. My favorite movement is the third movement, Hymn to Vena, which is filled with unusual harmonies and includes a short harp cadenza. Here's a video of our collaboration on Soleils de Septembre by Lili Boulanger from 2024, also supported by the MSAC.

Choral Repertoire: Harp Parts Available

I’m really pleased to share that my latest publication Choral Repertoire: Harp Parts is now available

through the following places:

Harp Inside Out (PDF)

Amazon.com (Hard Copy)

Atlanta Harp Center (PDF)

Virginia Harp Center (PDF)

Sylvia Woods Harp Center (PDF)

Harp.com (PDF)

The book is available as both a hard copy and a digital PDF (although some places only carry one version) and contains works by Lili Boulanger, Johannes Brahms, Maurice Duruflé, Gabriel Fauré, Gustav Holst, and Camille Saint-Saëns. My hope is that when a harpist will be performing a piece of choral repertoire, they’ll be able to turn to my book as an excellent resource and use the parts for learning, rehearsing and performing.

Preparing to Record Music by Gustav Holst

I've been preparing to record Gustav Holst's Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda, Op. 26, Group 3 with the Emmanuel Choir and conductor Christian Lane. We'll record the piece in November and the finished video will then be shared through my YouTube channel. Holst wrote this piece during his Sanskrit period, when he was greatly interested in and inspired by Hindu literature. Holst actually wrote four suites entitled Choral Hymns from the Rig Vedaeach suite consisting of three or four short pieces, but only one suite is written for chorus and harp (rather than chorus and piano). Thank you to the Maryland State Arts Council for the funding in support of this project!

Maryland State Arts Council Creativity Grant

The Maryland State Arts Council has generously funded my project to record the Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda, Op. 26, Group 3 by Gustav Holst. Although Holst is best known for writing the monumental orchestral work The Planets (which includes two harps), Holst was a highly prolific composer whose output includes many works for vocalists. The Choral Hymns that we'll be recording is a lovely work written for treble voices and solo harp, the same instrumentation as Benjamin Britten's well-known work, A Ceremony of CarolsI'm looking forward to recording this work with the Emmanuel Choir and conductor Christian Lane and then releasing a YouTube video of the finished recording later this year.
