Workshops

Throughout 2021 - 2022, Jacqueline presented a series of online workshops and presentations for students, all taking place via Zoom. Although there are no upcoming workshops at the moment, interested harpists can view any of the past workshops. Each workshop focuses on a different topic and is 90 minutes in length.

Workshop: Glissandos and Harmonics
 

Jacqueline presents an online workshop on playing glissandos and harmonics, two highly specific harp effects. Students of any level playing either a lever or a pedal harp are welcome to join Jacqueline via Zoom to build and refine these skills.

Throughout the 90 minute class, Jacqueline will present each skill at its most basic level and then demonstrate increasingly difficult exercises. Registrants will receive a PDF set of exercises, and can either refer to this, or simply follow Jacqueline's demonstrations and explanations. All students can identify the level appropriate for them and focus in on this level.

Presentation:

Grandjany's Music as Learning Repertoire

 

Jacqueline gives an online presentation for students and teachers about the music of Marcel Grandjany in learning the harp. While Grandjany (1891-1975) was himself a virtuoso harpist, he devoted much of his time to teaching and composing music at a variety of levels for students.

Throughout this 90 minute class, Jacqueline will present many works by Grandjany, starting with his beginning pieces and moving through music of increasing complexity. In addition to demonstrating passages of each piece, Jacqueline will discuss the skills and techniques each work covers and common challenges encountered in learning it. Attendees do not need a harp for this class, as there will be no student playing.

Workshop: Special Effects and Extended Techniques

Jacqueline presents an online workshop on playing special effects and extended techniques. Students of any level playing either a lever or a pedal harp are welcome to join Jacqueline via Zoom to learn to play many unusual and non-standard effects.

Throughout the 90 minute class, Jacqueline will present a wide range of extended techniques, including pedal and lever slides, gongs, whistles, weaving paper in the strings of the harp, and many more. Jacqueline will demonstrate and explain each technique and registrants can follow along at home on their harp. 

Workshop: Combining the Right and Left Hands

Jacqueline presents an online workshop on combining the right and left hands in playing. Many students find coordinating their hands to be a challenge while learning music. Join Jacqueline via Zoom to focus on this crucial skill. Students of any level playing either a lever or a pedal harp are welcome.

Registrants will receive a PDF set of exercises, and can either refer to this, or simply follow Jacqueline's demonstrations and explanations. Presentation:

Bernard Andrès' Music for Students

 

Jacqueline gives an online presentation for students and teachers about the music of Bernard Andrès. Andrès (b. 1941) is a prolific composer of harp music with works at many different difficulty levels. With so many possible pieces, it can be a challenge to know how to sequence his music.

Throughout this 90 minute class, Jacqueline will present many works by Andrès starting with his beginning pieces and moving through music of increasing complexity. In addition to demonstrating passages of each piece, Jacqueline will discuss the skills and techniques each work covers and common challenges encountered in learning it. Attendees do not need a harp for this class, as there will be no student playing.

Workshop: Building Technical Skills
 

Jacqueline presents an online workshop on building technical skills on the harp. Students of any level playing either a lever or a pedal harp are welcome to join Jacqueline via Zoom to dive into the nuts and bolts of playing the harp, including chords and inversions, placing and replacing, arpeggios, and scales.

Throughout the 90 minute class, Jacqueline will present each skill at its most basic level and then demonstrate increasingly difficult exercises. Registrants will receive a PDF set of exercises, and can either refer to this, or simply follow Jacqueline's demonstrations and explanations. All students can identify the level appropriate for them and focus in on this level.

Workshop: Rhythm on the Harp

Jacqueline presents an online workshop on rhythm on the harp. Students of any level playing either a lever or a pedal harp are welcome to join Jacqueline via Zoom to work on a variety of rhythms and time signatures, areas that many harp students find challenging.

Throughout the 90 minute class, Jacqueline will present each skill at its most basic level and then demonstrate increasingly complex exercises. Registrants will receive a PDF set of exercises, and can either refer to this, or simply follow Jacqueline's demonstrations and explanations. All students can identify the level appropriate for them and focus in on this level.
