Calendar 2021-2022

Join Jacqueline in 2021 - 2022 for an exciting season of performances and student workshops. At the heart of the season are Jacqueline's short, thematic online concerts of solo harp music on the third Friday of every month at noon (Eastern Time). Throughout each thirty minute performance, Jacqueline will offer remarks about the theme and composers presented. All performances will livestream through Jacqueline's YouTube channel free of charge, with donations accepted, and will be available to view after the premiere.

Additionally, Jacqueline will also offer a few live and in person performances this season at various venues. More information about all events is listed below.

SEPTEMBER 17 at Noon

Concert: Dancing on the Harp

Jacqueline presents a concert of dances on the harp. Each dance uses the harp in a unique way and highlights the versatility of the instrument.

SEPTEMBER 18 at Noon

Workshop: Rhythm on the Harp

Jacqueline presents an online workshop on rhythm on the harp. Students of any level playing either a lever or a pedal harp are welcome to join Jacqueline via Zoom to work on a variety of rhythms and time signatures, areas that many harp students find challenging.

​

Throughout the 90 minute class, Jacqueline will present each skill at its most basic level and then demonstrate increasingly complex exercises. Registrants will receive a PDF set of exercises, and can either refer to this, or simply follow Jacqueline's demonstrations and explanations. All students can identify the level appropriate for them and focus in on this level.

OCTOBER 15 at Noon

Concert: Sonatas for the Harp

Many beautiful sonatas are found within the harp repertoire, and while all share the same basic form, each presents a distinct mood. Join Jacqueline to hear three favorites!

OCTOBER 16 at Noon

Presentation: Grandjany's Music as Repertoire for Learning

Jacqueline gives an online presentation via Zoom for students and teachers about the music of Marcel Grandjany in learning the harp. While Grandjany (1891-1975) was himself a virtuoso harpist, he devoted much of his time to teaching and composing music at a variety of levels for students.

​

Throughout this 90 minute class, Jacqueline will present many works by Grandjany, starting with his beginning pieces and moving through music of increasing complexity. In addition to demonstrating passages of each piece, Jacqueline will discuss the skills and techniques each work covers and common challenges encountered in learning it. Attendees do not need a harp for this class, as there will be no student playing.

NOVEMBER 19 at Noon

Concert:
The Music of Marcel Tournier

Join Jacqueline for a concert of the music of French harpist Marcel Tournier (1879-1951). Known for his impressionistic compositional style, Tournier's music dazzles through an array of colors and techniques.

NOVEMBER 20 at Noon

Workshop: Combining the Right and Left Hands

Jacqueline presents an online workshop on combining the right and left hands in playing. Many students find coordinating their hands to be a challenge while learning music. Join Jacqueline via Zoom to focus on this crucial skill. Students of any level playing either a lever or a pedal harp are welcome.

​

Throughout the 90 minute class, Jacqueline will present each skill at its most basic level and then demonstrate increasingly complex exercises. Registrants will receive a PDF set of exercises, and can either refer to this, or simply follow Jacqueline's demonstrations and explanations. All students can identify the level appropriate for them and focus in on this level.

Concert: Russian Music

Russian composers have long embraced the harp and its capabilities. In this dramatic program, Jacqueline presents music by four different Russian composers, including a seasonal favorite, Tchaikvosky's The Nutcracker.

DECEMBER 18 at Noon

Workshop: Special Effects and Extended Techniques

Jacqueline presents an online workshop on playing  special effects and extended techniques. Students of any level playing either a lever or a pedal harp are welcome to join Jacqueline via Zoom to learn to play many unusual and non-standard effects.

​

Throughout the 90 minute class, Jacqueline will present a wide range of special effects, including pedal and lever slides, gongs, whistles, weaving paper in the strings of the harp, and many more. Jacqueline will demonstrate and explain each technique and registrants can experiment at home on their harp.

DECEMBER 19 at 7pm

Live Concert

Join Jacqueline live at the Baltimore venue, An die Musik (409 N. Charles Street), for an hour long performance of works by Marcel Tournier, Pytor Tchaikovsky, and Reinhold Glière. Throughout the performance, Jacqueline will offer thoughts about the music.

FEBRUARY 18 at Noon

Livestream Concert:
The Music of Bernard Andrès

Bernard Andrès (b. 1941) is a prolific French composer, who writes extensively for the harp in a manner that highlights the rhythmic and color possibilities of the instrument. Join Jacqueline for a few of her favorite pieces by Andrès.

MARCH 12 at 3pm

Live Performance: Trio Sirènes

Trio Sirènes (Marcia McHugh, flute; Karin Brown, viola; Jacqueline Pollauf, harp) presents an in person concert at the Light Street Library Branch (1251 Light Street) in the Federal Hill neighborhood of Baltimore. In this informal setting, the trio will present several works, offer thoughts about the music, and answer questions from the audience.

There is no admission charge for this concert.

Livestream Concert:
In Remembrance of Osian Ellis

World-renowned Welsh harpist Osian Ellis passed away last year at the age of 92. Throughout his career, Ellis championed music by contemporary British composers. In this program, Jacqueline will present music by two composers closely associated with Ellis.

Online Presentation: Bernard Andrès' Music for Students

At the Paris Conservatoire

The Paris Conservatoire has long been central to harpists and their repertoire, and many beautiful pieces of music have come from the conservatory. Join Jacqueline for a program of pieces written by four composers associated with the Paris Conservatoire, including the premiere of a new transcription by Jacqueline.

Join Jacqueline in person at the Arts Club of Washington (2022 I Street NW, Washington D.C.) for a thirty-minute solo harp performance. The program will feature music by Gabriel Pierné, Grace Becker Vamos, and André Jolivet. Throughout the program, Jacqueline will offer a few thoughts on her selections.
